Frigate ARA LIBERTAD arrived at Dublin on June 21 as
part of her visit to Ireland to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of
the death of Admiral William Brown in 1857. Born in Foxford, Co.
Mayo Admiral Brown founded the Argentine Navy - Armada Argentina - a
statue of Admiral Brown was erected nearby during 2006. |

Irish Minister for Defence, the Argentine Chargé d’Affaires,
Federico Guillermo Urrutia, the Chief of Staff of the Defence
Forces, Lieutenant General Jim Sreenan and the Flag Officer
Commanding the Naval Service, Commodore Frank Lynch attended a
ceremony at the statue of Admiral William Brown

This magnificent full rigged tall
ship was constructed by
Astillero Río Santiago of Buenos Aires and delivered
to the Argentine Navy in 1962. She
set the world speed record during the crossing of the Northern
Atlantic under sail, in 1966, covering a distance of 2,058.6
nautical miles in 8 days
