The present lighthouse was first
lit on February 1st, 1852, converted to acetylene in 1939 and
electricity in 1964. The lighthouse is built on the site of a much
older lighthouse once operated by the nuns of a St. Anne's Convent
from 1190 until dissolved in 1542.
