A Day Trip to Holyhead - A Photographic Record

Photographs © Michael O'Connell 2008

Michael O'Connell took a day trip from Dublin to Holyhead on January 05, 2008 in what can be clearly seen to be interesting weather conditions ......

Michael comments: "Here are some photographs taken from the ISLE OF INISHMORE on Saturday 5th January. INISHMORE was late leaving Dublin due to her late arrival from Holyhead. With the JONATHAN SWIFT cancelled there was a high volume of passenger traffic on board. STENA ADVENTURER departed ahead of the ISLE OF INISHMORE around 08:15 with help from the tug DEILGINIS.

ISLE OF INISHMORE departed around 08:20. STENA ADVENTURER can be seen leaving Dublin. ISLE OF INISHMORE was tied down in Holyhead at 12:00. On the return sailing to Dublin ISLE OF INISHMORE departed at 14:30 ahead of STENA ADVENTURER, but she followed right behind, she coming alongside on the crossing but fell back for arrival in Dublin at 17:45.

Also to be seen is the cargo ship RIVER BLYTH sheltering outside Holyhead and D S MONTROSE along side the jetty in Holyhead. The fishing vessel was heading for Dublin"
