Los Reginas S.A. of Santander operate
a large fleet of both traditional and modern passenger vessels which
operate the high frequency Santander
- Pedreña - Somo ferry service which operates
every 30 minutes. When I took a trip on Maundy Thursday April 13,
2006 the service was running at the lower level Bank Holiday
frequency. However, this gave the opportunity to see the large fleet
of vessels operated by the company, most of which where still at
their berths at
Pedreña, though some were being prepared for pleasure trips later in
the day.
In addition to the regular
ferry service, the company also operates cruises of the Bay of
Santander and up the Rio Cubas as well as a summer seasonal ferry
service to the El Puntel beach across the bay. Fares are very
reasonable with a return to Sumo via
Pedreña costing
just €3.50 for almost an
hour's round trip.
