Sea Express 1 Returns from a "Bay Cruise"

Photographs © Ian Collard & John H. Luxton 2005

Adverse conditions appeared to be the cause of SEA EXPRESS 1 aborting her Saturday morning sailing to Dublin on October 01, 2005. She is seen passing New Brighton returning to Prince's Landing Stage.

SE1 returned to Prince's Landing Stage to discharge, berthing stern first. Whilst operating for her owners, the Isle of Man Steam Packet company, this was the preferred direction of berthing. However since her charter to Irish Sea Express, SEA EXPRESS 1 usually berths bow on. She would have berthed this way to enable vehicles expecting to disembark in Dublin to exit the vessel without the need to turn around. The vehicles on the Landing Stage were awaiting the late running SUPERSEACAT TWO.

Once discharged SE1 departed and headed down river to a location off the Rock to enable SSC2 to berth. This is the third Liverpool - Dublin sailing which has been aborted this autumn. On two previous occasions technical problems sent her back to Liverpool.
