Stena Antarctica Departs from Tranmere

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2012

Crude oil tankers are not always particularly attractive looking ships, but the bright paintwork and large logos make the STENA ANTARCTICA one of those tankers which stand out from the crowd.

She arrived at Tranmere on Friday January 27 and is seen here outbound in the early afternoon of Saturday January 28, 2012 bound for Rotterdam for orders. STENA ANTARCTICA was built in by Samsung Heavy Industries in 2006 weighs in at 61371grt / 114849dwt.

She is one of the largest Ice breaking tankers in the world along with her sister ship STENA ARCTIC. Since completion in 2006 she has been operating a 10 year time charter to the Russian company Progetra S.A..
