Steel Isle arriving at the Naval Service Pier, Cóbh. In the first two photographs Spike Island home to a prison can be seen. Haulbowline Island, the Irish Navy base, can be seen in the background of the third picture.
On July 24, the Irish Naval Service's passenger ferry DAVID F was taken out of service for maintenance. Marine Transport Services passenger vessel STEEL ISLE took over the service. This vessel now normally used for public cruises around Cork Harbour and the Naval Base. She also operated commuter service to the Irish Steel plant on Haulbowline Island - hence her name "Steel Isle". However, this service ended with the closure of the works.
