Balmoral at Harwich Parkeston Quay

BALMORAL called at Harwich on August 17, 2011 - her final port of call on the Dublin and Around the UK Cruise. Since your web master's last visit three years ago a new gangway system has been installed which is very long considering the distance from terminal to ship is so short. It almost makes the lengthy walkway to King Edward Pier at Douglas look sensible!

As the BALMORAL arrived the Fred. Olsen Lines house flag was raised on the terminal flag pole and the Harwich Town Crier made an appearance.

Passengers were welcomed back to the ship by the Harwich Pipe Band.A "Sail Away" party was arranged on the afterdeck on departure. it hadn't really got going when this photo was taken. For those preferring the forward view an RAF helicopter made a couple of close passes and then performed a mock winching exercise with the Haven Ports' Pilot Vessel SAINT BRENDAN which was heading to BALMORAL to pick up the pilot.
