RMV Swift Lady

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2005

SWIFT LADY was delivered to the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company at the end of September 2004. She is designed to operate the inter-island Royal Mail letters and parcels and support the operation of the inter-island freight ferry LYONESSE LADY.

SWIFT LADY was built by Redbay Boats of Northern Ireland.  She is the from the manufacturer's Stormforce class of boat, 8.4 metres in length, with a forward cabin and twin 115cc 4 stroke Yamaha outboard engines. She can complete her round of deliveries between an hour and an hour and a quarter.

She arrived at Penzance by lorry from Troon having crossed the Irish Sea . She was then taken by road to Penzance and carried over to Hugh Town, St. Mary's aboard the GRY MARITHA.Given that SWIFT was built especially for a Royal Mail contract, this must make her one of the smallest Royal Mail Vessels [RMV] ever constructed?
