HMS SEVERN is the second of three River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to come into service being completed in 2003, and along with sister ships, HMS TYNE and HMS MERSEY comprise the majority of the Royal Navy’s Fishery Protection Squadron.

HMS SEVERN was built by Vosper Thornycroft, Southampton and is based at HM Naval Base Portsmouth. She along with her sister vessels are operated on lease from Vosper Thornycroft (now BAe Systems following VT’s withdrawal from the BVT consortium) to the Royal Navy until 2013.
