Type 45 Destroyer HMS Daring Debuts in Douglas Bay

Photographs © Jenny Williamson 2009

A few photos of the type 45 Destroyer HMS DARING on the occasion of her brief first visit to Manx waters on the morning of January 24, 2009. The Douglas pilot boat GIRL MARY came out with the media on board (TV and Radio), passed down the port side and then round her stern as she slowed down to show herself off.

A message of good wishes from the Lieutenant Governor was relayed to her from Douglas Harbour Radio. She headed across the bay at speed, turned back northwards briefly to allow the media to get a further look at her, turned round again, and disappeared off southwards. Her next appearance is scheduled to be at Guernsey before she heads off for her "stage 2 trials".
