The SPIRIT OF FAIRBRIDGE crossed the Mersey from Canning Half Tide Dock to Cammell Laird #4 Dry Dock around noon on Saturday January 08, 2011. A gaff-rigged Mersey pilot-schooner replica, built on Merseyside in the 1980s, she is operated by Fairbridge a charity which provides sail training opportunities for disadvantaged young people. Between 2007 and 2012 she is being sponsored by the Liverpool shipping company Bibby Line whose name can be seen in some of these photographs. It was reported in December that Cammell Laird apprentices had raised £30,000 to support the Fairbridge charity. SMIT COLLINGWOOD was present to remove the caisson gate on #4 dry dock and replace it after the vessel had entered the dry-dock. Some of the photographs provide for interesting monochromatic view being taken against he strong winter sunlight. |
