Sunday August 02, 2009 marked the end of an era - the last Mersey Docks & Harbour Company Dredger MERSEY MARINER departed the Mersey for the final time bearing a new livery and a new, but not very imaginative, name MERSEY M. She was sold by Peel Ports to Bandeirantes Dragagem LTDA of Rio de Jeneiro a few weeks ago. She wasn't showing a destination on AIS just "finished" this has been transmitted since she was withdrawn from service in July. However, the AIS did show an ETA of 12:00 on August 24. Dredging in the Mersey, the approach channels and on the Manchester Ship Canal is now provided by contract dredging services. MERSEY MARINER was the last in a long line of directly operated and owned Mersey Docks dredgers. |
