 | Views of the splendidly restored Scherzer rolling lift bridge at Stanley Dock, Liverpool on September 18, 2010. The bridge was closed to road traffic on in May 2008 following the discovery of significant corrosion. The bridge reopened to road users after extensive restoration and reinstatement of it's original Mersey Docks & Harbour Company paint scheme following extensive work by port owners Peel Holdings. Unfortunately the elderly electrical opening mechanism had been condemned as unsafe and the bridge is now fixed. Close examination of the picture right reveals that the socket holes have which engaged with the teeth which remain on the pavement surface have been filled in. |  |
