| On Monday January 09, 2012 the new Mersey Ferries Landing Stage at the Liverpool Pier Head was opened and Mersey Ferries transferred operations from the Liverpool Cruise Terminal from where services had operated since Autumn 2010. As can be seen the new ferry terminal is somewhat exposed and bleak with only the minimum of shelter offered by the foot bridge. Waiting facilities are also rather limited to a small glazed waiting room, much smaller than that provided at Seacombe or Woodside Terminals. However, the new stage is equipped with twin hydraulically powered passenger gangways. In these view passengers can be seen disembarking from the ROYAL IRIS on the first morning of operation. |
 | The first three photographs by Terry Linacre show several local worthies present for the opening including Neil Scales, Chief Executive of Merseytravel, Councillor Mark Dowd, Chairman of Mersey, Mersey Travel Chief Executive and Dan Stephens, Chief Fire Officer. On the far right are the most important chaps the ferry men Ricky, Davey and Pat who actually run the ferries! | | |
