These photographs from October 21, 2009 show Carlisle Pier, Dún Laoghaire following the clearance of the terminal building and station trainshed. The asbestos ridden structure had been left unused since the Stena HSS service commenced in 1996.
The Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company has made an application for a 5 year temporary permission for the provision of a public promenade and lookout point together with ancillary handrails, seating lighting on the Carlisle Pier. There had been various earlier proposals to redevelop the site with some "iconic" designs suggested. In addition to the promenade permission for public car parking for 100 vehicles and 50 bicycles is also sought as is space to store around 50 boats on the land vacated by the terminal.
