These photographs taken on October 19, 2008 show work
in progress to connect up Prince's Dock, Liverpool, with the Canal
Link. The two photographs on the left show the temporary earth dam
which is crowned by a temporary access road to Prince's Parade /
William Jessop Way. In the second photograph the new canal
overbridge can be seen in the original road. When the dock was
redeveloped in the mid 1990s only an underwater culvert was provided
between Prince's Dock and Prince's Half Tide. This has had to be
removed to facilitate the canal link. The next two photographs taken
from the temporary footpath which runs across the temporary earth
dam at the south end. The entrance to the tunnel under St. Nicholas
Place and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company vehicle marshalling
area can be seen. The final photograph (right) shows the temporary
earth dam at the south end and the ornamental footbridge. This
bridge, installed some years ago, has had to be raised to allow
adequate air craught for canal boats passing underneath through the
dock. |

The canal will pass under St.

marshalling area via a tunnel which was constructed during the
winter of 2006 / 7 before running between the new Mersey Ferries
terminal which is currently under construction and the Royal Liver,
Cunard and Port of Liverpool building as shown the artist's
