Princess Royal - Still Laid Up

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2009

The former German passenger ship PRINCESS ROYAL [ex HABICHT II] arrived on the Mersey in Summer 1995 and has remained in the Liverpool dock system ever since being moved around various berths. She has been berthed since summer 2008 at Canada Dock.

IMO number :5264663
Name of ship :PRINCESS ROYAL
Call Sign :J8KK9
Gross tonnage :884
Type of ship :Passenger Ship
Year of build :1959
Flag :St Vincent and Grenadines
Status of ship :Dead
Last update :2001-07-25

In 2008 Fakta om Fartyg web site reported that PRINCESS ROYAL had been sold and was due to be renamed TRINITY and rebuilt in Amsterdam before crossing the Atlantic for cruising in the Caribbean, However a year or so on and she remains at Liverpool with ownership and management still being recorded as Silver Leisure / Bridgewater Leisure. One wonders if her ultimate fate will see her entering the adjacent Canada Graving Dock for scrapping, given that this location has been given over to ship recycling?
