Smit Cymyran Becomes Chartwell at Bromborough

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2009

On August 20, 2007 the aircrew training launch SMIT CYMYRAN struck the East Platters Rocks near Holyhead at 13 knots causing extensive damage. The crew were rescued and the vessel beached at Holyhead. She was later taken round to the former McTay ship yard at Bromborough now operated by Mersey Heritage Ship Repair and placed on the slipway there for rebuilding. These photographs show her on Saturday June 27 bearing her original name CHARTWELL - her ownership now being recorded as Osiris Oceanographic of Eastham Wirral who appear to have configured her as a survey vessel, her previous owners being the Smit Group.
