A new feature of the Mersey shipping scene is the push tug operation between Liverpool and Irlam - push tug DAISY DOARDO seen propelling barge RES IV off Tranmere on November 17, 2007 and operated by Seaborn Container Line. The service is branded "Peel Ports Liverpool & Manchester Shuttle". The operation utilises two dumb barges RES IV & RES V. The service, which commenced in October 2007 operates three round trips each week between Liverpool Seaforth Dock and Irlam, on the Manchester Ship Canal carrying import containers trans-shipped at Liverpool. On the return sailing empty containers and containers carrying exports are returned to Liverpool. It is expected that this operation will take many lorry journey's off the regions roads as the barge can carry 160 TEUs. The supermarket group Tesco is using the service for wine imports. |
