Probably the largest vessel ever to sail into Derbyhaven is the hopper dredger PEARL RIVER (20,881 grt) seen here with another cargo of sand for use in the Ronaldsway Runway Extension Project which has been in progress for some time. The dredger lifts sand to the north east of the Isle of Man and then conveys it to the work site where it is discharged through a flexible pipeline. the ship is owned by Tideway BV of the Netherlands and operated by Dredging International BV of Belgium.
