The top left photograph shows the work underway constructing the new LNG terminal jetty at Milford Haven Three jack up barges and a Smit Sheer legs (TAKLIFT 7) working all the time, not to mention two more on the jetty roadway. The Ill-fated jack up rig JB-104 is pictured on the right of the first image with a barge delivering concrete alongside. The remaining photographs were taken on Saturday October 06, 2007, minutes after the JB-104 collapsed. Every boat in the Haven attended and when news broke that one man was missing all vessels searched for him. It appears that the locking mechanism on one leg failed sending the larger crawler crane smashing into the containers and port cabin acting as a control room on deck which then went over the side. A 44-year old man from the Netherlands died in the accident. He was the barge master and along with another man became trapped under water in the cabin. The safety boats were there in seconds to get the men out the water. |
