U534 - Moving the Stern

Photographs © Eddie Doig 2008

It was the stern section of U534 whose turn it was to make the short journey from East Float to Woodside on March 13, 2008.
The small section containing the electric motors was due to move on March 14 with the bow section following on Saturday March 15. Eddie writes: "Incidentally, the self propelled bogie has 64 wheels, costs three million pounds and if you want one there is a five year wait but it's an amazing piece of kit.  I was also told that Merseytravel paid one Euro for the submarine  If I remember right U534 had a three million pounds price tag on her not too long ago so. The red blocks she is standing on will be removed later and she will rest on the ground with wooden decking up to the level of the inner deck for visitors to look inside her from, and the four tons of artefacts will be on display in the new visitor centre.
