On June 06, 2009 the David Abel's Albion Ship Yard at Bristol was open to the public for a ceremony to mark the unveiling of the keel of the new PS MEDWAY QUEEN. Sections of the first riveted hull to be constructed in 50 years are already under construction in the yard's erecting shop adjacent to the dry dock. Also on display was a large scale model of the Medway Queen and various components from the original ship including engine parts and a section of a paddle wheel which were some of the components recovered when the original vessel was broken up in 2006. Prior to the unveiling ceremony music was provided by the Albion Dock Yard Silver Band which had been specially formed for the occasion. The original band had played at nearly all launches at the Albion Ship Yard, then operated by Charles Hill & Company until it merged with another local band in 1966. After various speeches the Lord Mayor of Bristol Councillor Christopher Davies unveiled the keel.
