Weaver Tug France - Hayhurst New Arrival at Albert Dock

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2007

A new arrival at the Albert Dock at the end of October 2007 was the historic tug FRANCE-HAYHURST. She was originally built by Yarwood's of Northwich between 1937 and 1938 for the Weaver Navigation and named after Colonel William France-Hayhurst, then chairman of the Weaver Navigation Trust.FRANCE-HAYHURST later passed to the ownership of the Manchester Ship Canal Company before ending up with the British Waterways Board as an inspection vessel and tug. After a period of dereliction she was acquired by Cathy Roberts from Merseyside who has been restoring the vessel. At the end of October she arrived back in teh north west after a voyage "north-a-about" from the east coast.  For further details see the report on the icliverpool web site [click here]
